Barbados Hospice
and Palliative Care

Comfort and Dignity at the End of Life

Hospice and palliative care are defined by holistic, specialized, family-centered care at the end of the life targeted at making the patient as comfortable as possible, with limited pain. With the aging population in Barbados, the increase in chronic non-communicable diseases, limited home palliative care options and the lack of a hospice and palliative care facility on the island, the Barbados Cancer Association USA (BACA) together with the Living Water Community, Inc. (LWC) identified the need to more effectively provide hospice and palliative care services for the residents of Barbados. Together, the two organizations committed to constructing and operating a standalone hospice and palliative care facility at the LWC compound at St. David’s, Christ Church in Barbados.

We partnered with BACA to develop a conceptual design for the 15-Bed Hospice and Palliative Care Unit and assisted them with health care planning, site planning, and a conceptual design of the center. The materials developed as part of this effort has helped BACA in their ongoing fundraising activities.
